How to use A-SUB DTF Film with Sublimation Printer & Ink. PDF

Step-by-Step Instructions:

1. Prepare the DTF Printer

• Ensure proper setup: Make sure your DTF printer is properly set up with DTF inks (including white ink). The printhead should be clean and the ink cartridges filled.

• Software settings: Use the designated RIP software for your printer, ensuring the print settings are correct for DTF printing. Select the correct print profile for A-SUB DTF Film.

2. Load the A-SUB DTF Film

• Print side: Load the A-SUB DTF Film into the printer, ensuring that the matte side is facing upwards (this is the print side).

• Check size: Make sure the film size matches the dimensions supported by your printer.

3. Print the Design

• Design setup: Prepare your design in your graphic design software (e.g., Photoshop, Illustrator). Ensure the colors are vibrant and the white layer is set up correctly for opacity.

• Print: Print the design onto the matte side of the A-SUB DTF Film. The printer will first print the colored design (CMYK), followed by a layer of white ink on top.

4. Apply DTF Powder

• While wet: Immediately after printing, apply the DTF adhesive powder (sometimes called hot melt powder) to the wet ink on the film.

• Spread evenly: Ensure the powder is evenly distributed across the design. Any excess powder can be shaken off gently.

• Cure the powder: Use a heat press set at 160°C (320°F) but do not press the film down. Instead, hover the heat press about 1-2 inches above the film for 2-3 minutes until the powder is fully melted and the design becomes a solid, smooth surface.

5. Transfer to Fabric

• Pre-press the fabric: Before applying the design, pre-press the fabric for 5 seconds to remove any moisture or wrinkles.

• Position the film: Place the cured DTF film on the fabric with the design facing down.

• Heat press: Press the design onto the fabric at 160°C (320°F) for 15-20 seconds with medium pressure.

6. Peel the Film

• Cold peel: Allow the film to cool completely before peeling it off. This will ensure the design is firmly adhered to the fabric.

7. Post-press (Optional)

• Final press: After peeling the film, you can give the design a final press with a parchment paper or Teflon sheet on top for 5-10 seconds to ensure durability.

Tips for Best Results:

• Use high-quality DTF ink to get the best results.

• Ensure your printer's white ink is flowing smoothly for vibrant colors and opacity.

• Test your heat press times and temperature settings with a small print before doing larger prints to ensure accurate transfers.

Step-by-Step Guide to Sublimating on 100% Cotton T-Shirts

Prepare Your Design:

Begin by creating or selecting the design you wish to transfer onto the cotton T-shirt. Remember to mirror the design before printing to ensure the correct orientation.

Printing on DTF Film:

• Print the design onto your transfer paper using sublimation inks. Loading the DTF sheet and setting your print quality at “Normal,” Don’t forget to print your design as a mirror image.
• If there is the feeding problem ,You can take a piece of copier paper and attach it to the DTF sheet using painter’s tape, and it feeds through great!

Apply Adhesive Powder: 

Once the design is printed on the DTF film, evenly sprinkle adhesive powder over the entire surface of the printed design while the ink is still wet. The adhesive powder will adhere to the ink, creating a tacky surface.

Curing the Adhesive:

Transfer the DTF film with the adhesive-coated design to a heat press or curing machine. Apply heat and pressure to activate the adhesive and ensure proper bonding between the ink and the adhesive powder.

Prepare the Cotton T-Shirt:

• Pre-heat the cotton T-shirt using the heat press to remove any moisture and wrinkles, ensuring a smooth surface for transfer.
• If you are using sublimation ink , we recommend light fabric with white powder !

Align and Transfer: 

Carefully place the cured DTF film with the design facing down onto the pre-heated cotton T-shirt. Ensure proper alignment of the design on the garment.

Apply Heat and Pressure:

Once the design is aligned, cover it with a protective sheet and apply heat and pressure using the heat press. Follow the recommended time, temperature, and pressure settings for sublimating onto cotton.

Cooling and Peeling: 

After the sublimation process is complete, allow the garment to cool before carefully peeling away the DTF film. Be cautious to avoid smudging or damaging the transferred design.

Final Touches: 

Once the film is removed, inspect the transferred design for any imperfections. If necessary, re-press the design for additional adhesion.

the decision between black and white DTF powder relies on the application and cloth color.

Black DTF powder is good in preventing sublimation on dark-colored textiles,

White DTF powder is adaptable and suited for any fabric color.

Note: If you are using Sublimation Ink, we only recommend White DTF Powder
